Changes to Sunday Mass Times at St. Agnes’ & Stella from September 1st.

With Fr. James’ impending retirement as Parish Priest of St. Agnes’ on 28th July and the Bishop’s request that I take pastoral responsibility for the parishes of St. Agnes and Stella from that date, there will need to be some adjustment to the Sunday Mass times in each of our churches to enable me to celebrate both Sunday morning Masses. Fortunately, the adjustment will be slight.

From Sunday, 1st September, the new Sunday Mass times will be as follows:-

St. Agnes’, Crawcrook: Sunday 9.00 a.m.;

Stella: Sunday, 10.15 a.m.

Indian Food Festival.

An Indian Food Festival will be held at the newly consecrated St. Thomas’ Indian Orthodox Church, Front Street, Winlaton on Sunday, 14th July from 11.00 a.m. onwards. All proceeds from this event will be going to charity.

First Confession & First Holy Communion 2025…

…LAST CALL FOR APPLICATIONS!!!

Our parish programme for First Confession and First Holy Communion is already being prepared! As always, our programme is open to children who will be in year 4 or older in the school year beginning September 2024. The application forms for our 2024/25 programme are available from the table at the back of church NOW!

Please do read them carefully before completion – they not only outline the dates of the celebrations, but also highlight what our programme entails and the basic requirements from parents if they choose to enrol their child.

Completed forms must be returned to Fr. Rose by Sunday, 21st July at the very latest.

The parents’ packs will be delivered to home addresses during the summer holidays and the Mass of Commitment and Enrolment will be on the weekend of 7th/8th September.

Parish Summer FETE & GARDEN PARTY

Many thanks to all who came along to our annual Summer Fayre and Garden Party last Sunday. As always, we’re really grateful too, to all who helped with this year’s event:– those who prepared the grounds and set up all the tables and erected the bunting; the stall-holders who gave so much of their time; those who baked for the cakes stall; those who donated so many great items this year; the group of young people who gave their afternoon up to help and the staff from Blaydon Funeralcare for their donations and support. The total raised this year comes to £2,683.76!

A few chuckles…?

A six-year-old boy called his mother from his friend Charlie’s house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room.
“But, Mom,” he said, brightening, “you don’t have to worry about buying another one. Charlie’s mother said it was irreplaceable.”

A young boy had just gotten his driver’s permit and enquired of his father, if they could discuss his use of the car. His father said, “I’ll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little, get your hair cut and we’ll talk about the car.”
Well, the boy thought about that for a moment, and settle for the offer, and they agreed on it. After about six weeks they went in to the study, where his father said, “Son, I’ve been real proud. You’ve brought your grades up, and I’ve observed that you have been studying your Bible, and participating a lot more in the Bible study groups. But, I’m real disappointed, since you haven’t gotten your hair cut.”
The young man paused a moment, and then said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair and there’s even a strong argument that Jesus had long hair also.”
To this his father replied, “Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?”
